Hypnosis, what is it exactly?
Hypnosis is a safe and natural state that we actually enter into many times a day. We don't even recognise it, because our attention is engaged elsewhere at the time we experience it. Can you remember the last time you were totally absorbed in a TV program or a movie? Your attention is focused entirely on the events of the film. You can almost imagine being there. This is a form of hypnosis. How about driving? If you drive the same route on a daily basis, you might find that you are so deep in thought that you completely forget how you got there! We sometimes simply feel like we are daydreaming or deep in thought at times when we are experiencing a mild trance.
Those moments of altered attention are just what skilled hypnotherapists can guide you into, as your attention focuses on the therapists voice and your body gently settles down into a deep relaxed state. It is not like being asleep or being unconscious and you will probably hear everything the therapist says.
Will I be under the therapists control?
This is a very common concern, and mostly comes from the way stage hypnosis is presented. Stage hypnosis is not hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy gently combines hypnosis & therapy and at no point will you be under the control of the therapist.
Is it safe?
Yes. Your subconscious mind is always there to protect you in the event of an emergency. If a fire alarm sounded, you would be able to get up and walk out of the session.
Are there any after effects?
Yes. But they are all good ones! You will feel incredibly relaxed. Most people report a energised feeling directly after hypnosis, others say they sleep far better after a hypnotherapy session. The best side effects are to do with behavioral change! People say they feel far more positive, they have gone on to change their lives radically and for the better.
